It has a couple of basic built in filters such as blur and warp, and a familiar Brightness/Contrast/Hue function but I would kill for a proper Levels/Curve adjustment with a histogram! The one area where ArtRage is lacking is in the Filter/Adjustment department.

(The mobile Android version lags horribly.) However if you don't like the idea of traditional tools it also has a Custom Brush engine that isn't that different from the Photoshop style that you find in all digital software. The slight downside is that with all that paint simulation, it will run a little slower than other software on older machines. The kind of texture that you have to contrive in other software with layer overlays comes completely naturally with every stroke in ArtRage. The way the colours mix not only looks like paint, it behaves like paint too, with visible impasto thickness, smooth flowing brushstrokes and grainy texture as it interacts with the canvas. Where ArtRage excels is in the unique way it handles those traditional tools. I've never used Clip Studio but it does seem to be aimed more at the comic book style of digital art whereas ArtRage is set up more for a painterly, traditional style of work, although with enough work and practice ANY style is possible with any software. I think it all comes down to what kind of art you want to do. I seem to spend half my time here explaining that my pictures are done with ArtRage so I may as well stick my nose in here, although it's only an amateur opinion.
